DVD Movie Review #95 The Dead hate the Living

Hello again and welcome to another fun DVD movie review. This time we cover the movie "The Dead Hate the Living". This movie is one that I thought might be fun as it was only about $1.50 at Movie Stop and it was an ok project as a group of friends of mine named their punk band after the film. Now I have watched it and I can tell what I feel about it.

Well this film starts with a bunch of college students who are using an abandoned hospital for their horror movie film. They of course stumble on a dead body and immediately feel that it would be a good one for their film. Well a little botched resurrection spell and they all start coming back to life and trying to make an army of the dead to kill everyone.

Well the film has a fun B-Movie quality to it. Of course this is a B-Movie and you can tell this from the acting. It is a decent fright fest with the zombies killing everyone. I feel that the location is pretty creepy and thought he music is cheap it is still pretty good.

I donno the plot is pretty lame and the acting pretty much sucks. The Makeup is bad with you being able to see where the lines are on the prosthetic. There is a supposed love story in this somewhere but I have to admit it is pretty much lost in the bad film feeling I get. The predictable course of the film aslo doesn't help much in this case.

In the end this is a cheap horror romp feel free to try and enjoy.

DVD Movie review #110 Frozen

Hello again and welcome back to another one of my wonderful movie reviews. This time I am covering the oscar winner Frozen. This movie was really something that I wanted to see as soon as I heard of it and I wasn't disappointed so naturally I had to get this from Amazon when it came out and at a nice discount. $16 is great for a Disney mainstream release.
This movie follows two young princesses but one of them has special powers that freeze whatever she touches. She is shunned and put away by her parents isolated and alone for years until she is crowned queen and then goes evil placing the city under an eternal winter. The other princess must melt her sister's heart and find love at the same time in this wonderful disney animated feature.

Who doesn't love a classic Disney adaptation from a dark and terrifying original tail called the "Ice Queen". There is dancing and singing and when we get to the end what's not to like? The musical numbers are well done for the most part with "Let it Go" being the crowning glory. The characters for the most part are well fleshed out and Disney is starting to learn from pixar mixing its old glory with the new style. The writing is very well done and has a new twist to it adding some adult attention especially with the prince. The animation is beautiful requiring Blue Ray to really do it justice. The sound is well done and you can enjoy this all the way through and of course buy the Soundtrack.
I'm sorry but does anyone else feel the snowman was an unnecessary character? I felt that it was even less less useful than the trolls. At least the trolls has the whole sage advise angle. I felt that the movie did drag in areas and some of the songs were unnecessary. With these changes I feel that the film would otherwise be near flawless. But in the end we need to take the flaws and "let them go".
In the end this is a fun well done film that all should get to enjoy.

DVD Movie Review #94 God the Devil and Bob

Hello again and I am back with another fun DVD movie review. This is for a TV series called God the Devil and Bob. This series was given to a friend of mine by his brother who had found religion and had decided to get rid of it. He watched it and talked it up to me which lead to me finding this gem at Movie Stop for $5 and enjoying the find.

God is pretty darn tired of this world and is pretty sure he needs to scrap it all and start over again. He decides to give humanity one more chance and gives the Devil the shot to pick the human that the world will depend on. The Devil picks Bob, a Detroit auto worker who likes to kick back with the rest of them. Will Bob show God that humanity has worth or will it be that God does destroy the world and have to start over.

This series is a fun little series which is well worth the $5 that was spent on it. The plot line is fairly original kind of reminding me a little of the book of Job but otherwise is pretty well original. The portrayals of god and the devil are very fun and I enjoy both being done to the length that they are performed. Even Kevin Bacon joins in for the last episode. The voice acting is well done and I believe it when I see it. The Music is appropriate for the series and It is overall enjoyable.

The animation is pretty rough so it reminds me of a lot of stuff going at the time. The series was also not deemed good enough to go through with another season. I had to wonder at times with Bob as a character as he would continuously cycle from pretty poor student to guy who really wants to be good. It is a sad thing overall. In the end we can see that they could have used the budget increase that a second season would bring.

In the end this is a fun and cheap series to enjoy by all.

Rating:   7/10

DVD Movie Review #93 Bob Roberts

Hello fellow voters and welcome to a political DVD review. This time I am watching Bob Roberts which was originally put up by a friend of mine when we did our movie exchange. This was a cultural exchange if you will of two movie collectors trying to show off films in each other's collections that we feel much be shown. He had me see this film and I was very much impressed. When I saw this for $1.50 at Movie Stop I had to get hold of it.

This is a mockumentary of sorts that follows a Candidate for Senate Bob Roberts as he brings his unique lean on campaigning, folk singing. Bob is obviously a conservative much in the same vein as Glen Beck or that ilk. It takes a view of some of the corruption on the campaign trail as well as some of the issues with media unfairness. This is a unique level into politics.

This movie is a disturbing tail for all who watch it. Bob is a very scary guy or a wonderful advocate for freedom. There acting in this is superb and it is sad that we didn't see more award talk for this one. Anyone looking at this with an open mind can see that it can lean both ways even though this is done as a left leaning film. There were plenty of scenes where you had the media being overly harsh to Bob just due to his right wing beliefs. There are obvious scandals with both candidates and either could have truth behind them but neither is proven. The gem in this movie is the soundtrack. Anyone who like folk music will be impressed by the soundtrack here. The soundtrack is not readily available due to the lead actors wishes that they not be utilized for political action. They are very much far right wing beliefs expressed in the songs and well..the lead actor really didn't want to be associated with those beliefs. The Costume design is beautiful I feel that Bob Roberts is the first real Tea Party Member long before the movement started. Last but not least I enjoyed seeing a young thin Jack Black it brought a new prospective on the actor for me.

This movie is quite dark and kind of leaves you with an empty feeling in the end. I feel that there is a sad pessimism about it and a feeling of hopelessness for this country. I feel that some of the actors like Alan Rickman were a tad underused as I always hate to see obvious talent not utilized.

In the end I feel this is a must see and would recommend that anyone who is thinking of not voting in an election needs to see this film.

SeptumSin's Blue Ray & DVD update Blog 3/16/14

Hello all, Many of you know me for my DVD reviews and some of my early readers know me for my political issues. This time as a collector I will show you a glimpse into my purchasing. I will try and give an update after I either go on a shopping trip or as a mail order comes in. I will probably hold off until I get a number of them. This will be a glimpse into the life of a DVD addict. I know I started my long collector habit when I was working in a dangerous area for about 6 years of my life. There were lots of gun shots and the only option I had for going out was the local bar where again guns were worn out in the open. I ended up staying in and watching movies and as I used to be a collector (comics at that time) I got into the habit of enjoying owning DVDs there is a nice edge to it and I will try to explain my motivations for purchase during each glimpse.

To those of you who follow my reviews don't necessarily look for any of these soon. My reviews follow me watching the DVD or Blue Ray and this can come at a delay. Of course my reviews are actually in a backlog as well for instance I just reviewed the movie 23:59 but it is I believe review #104 and I am still publishing the ones in the late 80s early 90s right now. I can say though that if you see one of them here it will need to be watched and then after that will be reviewed.

This time I am showing an Amazon order from DVDMan he is also an avid collector and I can trust in the quality of the goods he provides.
We start with one that actually came to me new in the purchase which was Sleepless in Seattle. I've loved this film and it is a shame as a collector that this was not in my collection. I got this for a low price at around $5 and the performance is will worth the buy. This film is probably the one of the essential romance films along with others such as when Harry Met Sally. I am really looking forward to seeing them again.
This is what got me into buying in this order in the first place. I just recently got the Ultimate Stooges collection and this is a good compliment. Supposedly the ultimate collection has some of the cartoons and this has all of them. I like that they were all voiced by the stooges and this will become a quick priority as it is used and I am really really looking forward to seeing this one.

I must say this and the other purchase were impulse buys though this one is probably the least of the two as I have the other two american Ring films and this is supposedly the conclusion. My collector's mentality is very much out there and in full swing here. I just hope that this isn't a poor purchase like the Grudge 3.
I have watched this one already. This one was pure impulse as I like Magnet films and this is on eof those that just drew me in and then it was also $5. I was curious and it is sad to say this wasn't the best of buys. Still I don't see this everywhere so This isn't too terrible.

Well that's the end for now I hope that you guys have enjoyed this and I will continue to add as I have new stuff to bring up :)

DVD Movie Review #92 Fatal Attraction

Hello again and welcome back to my DVD movie review. Today I am handling a great little movie that is called Fatal Attraction. You know I've actually never seen this film before. I had it on my list for the longest time and then ran across the blue ray at movie stop for a pretty darn good price. Well after my girlfriend told me "you need to see this" we plugged it in the PS3 and away we went into the world of madness and jealousy.

This film stars Michael Douglas who plays an unhappily married man bored with his current life. He looks for some excitement in the bed of Glenn Close a businesswoman from his job. Well they get freaky and then things become freaky when he tries to go back to living his normal life again. The thrills and chills are there leaving you telling yourself. "I will never cheat on my wife ever"

This movie is a classic to be sure being nominated for multiple academy awards. The acting in it is to notch with Glenn Close playing Borderline personality disorder right to the hilt. I work with quite a few Borderline patients so I know what I'm talking about. The action feels very real and you find yourself on the edge of your seat nervous for the family. The makeup is and costume design fits the film and the characters especially the way they dress the two female leads. In the end I am glad I got to see this.

The film does feel a tad outdated in values showing the evils of the working woman as opposed to the dedicated live in wife. I also have to wonder about the music. I felt at times like they just had a guy on a keyboard pounding out the notes. Be that as it may these don't pull away from the movie too badly.

In the end this is a must see movie for any collector or movie geek.

DVD Movie review #91 Wagnaria 2

Hello again and welcome to another edition of my DVD movie reviews. This time I put up the series Wagnaria 2. This is a series I really enjoyed watching it when it was just a fan sub called Working! When NIS America released it as one of their flagship titles I was on board pretty quickly. It took multiple years before the second part came on board and now they have improved their releases with no more quirks and pretty blu-ray to boot.

Wagnaria is an anime series that centers around a family restaurant called....Wagnaria. The series follows an interesting group of characters that work their each with their own little quirks such as the character that only likes small things or one of the characters that always carries a samurai sword with her. This season continues where the first left off and continues to explore the relationship between two of the lead characters but for the most part just enjoys itself at a leisurely pace.

I really enjoyed this series all the way through to the end. The Blue Ray adds to the wonderful colors and nice animation that fits the series well. The characters are entertaining and the voice acting fits the characters very well. The stories are well written and for anyone that has been in that type of employment it has an extra charm. You get to meet a few more fun characters that are great additions to the cast. The opening theme though not as good as the first season is still light and fun. The ending theme is hands down better than the first season.

Well though I am used to it I feel Japanese voices are Annoying! NIS does not allow for english dub track so this can grate on me if I am not ready for it. I also was kind of disappointed that it didn't work more on the romantic relationship with two of the main characters that was more prevalent in the first series. This series felt a little...unfinished.

This is a fun series and it should definitely be checked out.

Raging:   7/10

This is the Blue Ray Premium set from NIS America. They makes some fun sets you gotta love em.
