Halloween Movie Blog #20 When They Cry

Ok we have talked a little about horror TV and now we are doing another series that goes to the realms of anime. This time I am going into the deranged and the crazy. This is the series called When They Cry.
Ok we have ourselves a young man that moves back to his childhood town and reconnects with some people he knew in the past. They form an after school game club and use the afternoons of summer to play the night way. On the night of the festival our hero breaks into the shrine of the protecting god and then all hell breaks loose. What will happen to our friends, will they survive?
This series has two unusual angles to it and the first I find is very fun and makes the series that much more special and the other is more controversial, especially if you only get to watch the first series. The series starts out on a happy cheery note. You would think that the series is a comedy series and not a horror one with how they play around and how nice and cool the characters are. This gives the story some depth and enhances the scares later on.
The other original thing is that this series follows an odd story pattern. The story repeats itself many times throughout they context of the series each way playing out differently. This has garnered criticism as the series seems to end without explaining anything. If you are adventurous and are keen on downloads you can watch the second series and it explains the whole of it for you. I personally find this a unique and fun way to run the series as you never really know what is going to happen or who is going to die. I also recommend watching the second series as it completes the story and enhances things to a level that I find wonderful.
This series has some fun with how it executes the horror taking it slow sometimes and others coming right out to it. With each killing the depths become greater and you get to learn a little bit more about each character and their dynamics as they slip further into madness and despair. Finally you get to see the violence and the blood.
This is probably one of the best horror series that I have run into period and I must say it iw sell worth the watch.

Creep Factor - 9/10
Entertainment Value - 7/10
Scare Factor - 8/10
